Senior Recreation Therapist - Broome

This Senior Recreation Therapist will design, develop, implement, and deliver recreational therapy services to address the physical, mental and/or social well-being of individuals receiving services. They will be responsible for the organization and direction of one or more therapeutic recreation programs including, but not limited to, sports, music, art, and social activities. Incumbents may also supervise lower-level Recreation Therapists as well as other recreation program staff in the design, development, and/or delivery of recreation therapy services. Other duties as assigned. Position will require flexibility and willingness to ensure recreation opportunities exist during evening and weekend hours.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
o Function as a full member of the treatment team, relating well to professional, para-professional and direct care staff and their supervisors, as well as volunteers, families, service coordinators and individuals. o Utilize a thorough, concise, accurate, and professional manner both verbally and in writing to communicate. o Assist in developing and carrying out program services. o Possess an understanding of behavior management, treatment techniques, and therapeutic use of recreation. o Complete assignments in a timely manner. o Ability to adjust work schedule to meet program and organizational needs. o Possess a valid New York State driver's license. o Complete other duties as assigned.

Salary Range:
From $57984 to $73813 Annually
Minimum Qualification
Candidates must currently be in title, eligible for transfer, or reachable on the Civil Service Eligible List for this title. Provisional appointment may be considered. Provisional candidates must take and pass the next Civil Service examination. To be eligible for provisional appointment candidates must be; o A qualified employee of New York State and have had one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as a Recreation Therapist, Recreation Therapist (Spanish Language), Recreation Therapist (Art), Recreation Therapist (Dance), or Recreation Therapist (Music). o Or, a master's degree in therapeutic recreation, creative arts therapy, art therapy, dance therapy, music therapy, or drama therapy; o Or. a bachelor's degree in therapeutic recreation, creative arts therapy, art therapy, dance therapy, music therapy, or drama therapy, AND one year of post-degree professional experience in planning and administering a therapeutic program which involved developing and coordinating therapeutic activities for geriatric patients/residents, individuals with developmental disabilities, individuals with psychiatric disabilities, individuals who are physically challenged, or individuals in treatment for alcoholism and substance abuse; o Or. a bachelor's degree in recreation, physical education, adaptive physical education, art, dance, music, drama, recreation education with a concentration in therapeutic recreation, or recreation and leisure studies with a concentration in therapeutic recreation AND two years of post-degree professional experience as described above; o Or. have one year of post-degree professional experience as described above AND be one of the following:
1. Certified as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC). 2. Registered with the American Art Therapy Association as an Art Therapist. Registered with the American Dance Therapy Association as a Dance Therapist. 3. Certified by the American Music Therapy Association as a Music Therapist. 4. Registered by the National Association for Drama Therapy as a Registered Drama Therapist.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
