The Department of Animal Science conducts research and provides undergraduate and graduate instruction, and extension and continuing education on the biology and management of food, laboratory, and companion animal species.
The employee working in this position will be responsible for the health and welfare of research animals including poultry, swine, sheep, horses, goats and cattle.
Responsible for feeding, watering, monitoring health of the animals, assisting with research needs as well as maintaining the cleanliness of the facilities.
Assist with vaccinations, treatment of illness and animal movement within and between animal housing units.
Maintain accurate records.
Cleaning and disinfect animal housing facilities.
Assist in mixing of feed, animal waste removal, lawn mowing and snow plowing and minor repairs.
Required
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED; 1-2 years of domestic farm animal handling and livestock husbandry experience.
Knowledge of animal health issues.
Must demonstrate good communication skills.
Must be safety oriented.
Must be willing to work under varying climatic conditions and be exposed to loud noises, dusty conditions, animal waste and odors.
Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
Must be willing to work extended hours as necessary to accomplish goals.
The successful candidate must be personable, flexible, possess excellent communication and organizational skills and take pride in their work.
Demonstrated ability to develop effective working relationships with a wide variety of students, faculty and staff.
Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Must be willing to work every weekend and some holidays.
Valid NYS driver's license.
Preferred
Qualifications:
AAS Degree in Animal Science, Veterinary Technician Degree, Animal Technician Certification.
Experience working in a research setting.
